Descending the Summit

by Feb 4, 2021

Summits are meant to be climbed. They are meant to be climbed up and climbed down. Once you have made it to the top of the Summit and accomplished your goal, you have to make your way back down the mountain and begin a new goal.

This past week many of you came to the Disciple Making Summit at Crossroads Church in Newnan, Georgia. Thank you for coming and hearing the challenge to multiply your life as a disciple of Christ. Now that you are back home it is time to apply what you have learned. It is time to set a new goal and to put into practice the things that you’ve learned.

I hope the one take-away that you have from your time at the Summit is to be a disciple and to build disciples. In other words, if you have never been discipled, I hope you will pursue a discipleship relationship where you can grow. Find someone a little farther down the road in his or her walk with Christ and ask that person to help you grow and become more like Jesus. Ask that disciple to teach you the character and conduct of Christ.

If you have been discipled and you are growing in Christlike character and conduct, then it might be time for you to build others. Ask God to put three or four people on your heart who you could ask to join you in a discipleship group. God will make it clear to you who those people are. Meet with them and ask them if they would be willing to meet with you once a week and gain a journey of becoming more like Christ.

Once you find the right group, I would recommend the use of some tools and resources to guide your time together. I would suggest you use the resources we have created at Impact Discipleship Ministries that will help you develop a spiritual foundation and grow in the character and conduct of Jesus. The tools of Impact One, Two, and Three are perfectly designed to help you become a fully trained disciple.

Mountain tops are great experiences. They are exhilarating and refreshing – but you are not meant to stay there. Summits are good but you have to come down sooner or later and get back to regular life. The Disciple Making Summit was one of those experiences that I hope pumped you up for what you will do once you descend. The goal of those two days was to inspire and encourage you to be more on mission than ever.

We exist to inspire people and churches to be and build disciples of Jesus Christ. Here at we are committed to coming alongside leaders and churches to help them figure out how to make disciples of Christ. If you need resources, coaching, or consulting, please contact us or check out the rest of our website. We would love to help you learn how to make an eternal investment with your life.
