Game Changer

by Mar 25, 2021

Hello, my name is Ron Cansler, and I am one of the consultants/coaches here at Impact Discipleship Ministries. I wanted to introduce myself and take a moment to share my journey of learning the importance of both being and building disciples of Jesus Christ.

The truth is that I grew up in church and even sat under great Bible teaching, but it was not until I was a student in seminary that I ever really understood that Jesus has a plan and a strategy for making disciples. People would ask me if I was growing spiritually, and I never really knew how to answer. I would say, “I thinks so… I am praying, reading my Bible, and I was less angry in traffic last week.”

These are all good things, but when I truly began to understand that Jesus has given us a target and that we can be fully trained as disciples, it was a game changer for me. Jesus shares with us in Luke 6:40, “The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.”

Jesus tells us that we can be fully trained to be like Him. This means that the focus of my life should be to have the character and conduct of Jesus. This is great because it is not just some lofty idea, but we now have a concrete “measuring stick” for our spiritual life. What does this look like? Well, it looks like Jesus! Jesus demonstrated perfectly the fruit of the Spirit that Paul describes for us in Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

We can also see in the life of Christ that because of His character, He had certain characteristics (or marks) in His life. Not only do we see this in His life, but in the life of His disciples, and their disciples. We call these the M-7s, and we believe that every disciple should be a Member, Magnifier, Maturing, Manager, Minster, Messenger, and Multiplier according to Scripture.

Today could be a game changer for you as well! Maybe you can relate to some of what I have shared today. We at Impact would like to help you take some next steps and really begin to move toward hitting the target that Jesus gives. We have some great resources that get you in the Bible and help you map out a plan of becoming a fully trained disciple of Jesus.  For more information, please go to
