Where are you headed?
In less than two weeks, we will ring in a new year and a new decade. This transition brings us to a very important question: where are we headed in the next year?
Without a doubt, the majority of people will give little to no thought where they want to end up in the next year (and especially not the next ten years.) People will roll into 2020 having taken little time to think through their lives or the course they are on. I challenge you to be different. I challenge you to be part of the minority of people who will intentionally take the time to chart their courses and maximize their lives for Christ over the next year.
As I look ahead in my own life, there are a number of things I really want to be true of my life twelve months from now. I want to be a better child of God. I want to be a better husband and father. I want to be a better me. I want to be a better pastor and leader. I could go on: there are so many areas I want to improve.
When I think further into my future, there is one thing I know for sure I want to be true of my life at the end of the next decade. I want to be the best disciple I can be and have built as many multiplying disciples as possible in ten years. That means in the coming year, I will make the commitment to invest in a handful of men who hopefully will do the same thing with other disciples. It may take me a year or two, but I will intentionally pour my time and effort into a handful of guys who will be able to go out and make more disciples. As I do this, I will become a better disciple as well.
I am not making this commitment because I am a pastor. I am making this commitment because Jesus commanded me to make disciples right before He left the planet two thousand years ago. I do not want to stand before Him one day and not be able to say I did the very thing He told me to do. I do not want to waste my life on things that don’t really matter. Being and building disciples is what matters most. Therefore, I will give myself to that pursuit with all that I am and all that I have over the next ten years, starting with the next twelve months.
“We overestimate what we can do in a year and underestimate what we can do in ten years.” There is so much truth in that statement. I might be tempted to think I’ve not accomplished much in the coming year, but if I stay on course, I may be surprised what God has done through me in ten years!
I would love to know where you are headed in the next year and next decade. I would love to surround myself with like minded-people and stay connected with that minority of people who are passionately pursuing the same thing Jesus did. If you would like to contact me personally, please email email@example.com and our administration will personally connect you with me. I will put you on my disciple maker prayer list and pray for you as you pray for me.
I pray that you have the most impactful year in 2020 that you have ever had. Merry Christmas, and have a very happy New Year!
